Summary
Join GoodLeap's Legal Compliance team as a Senior Counsel to provide direct legal support for mortgage/HELOC products and business units. Collaborate with outside counsel and internal legal/paralegal teams, offering advice on legal matters related to mortgages, consumer credit, and related products/services. Manage legal, regulatory, and product issues concerning mortgage/HELOC financial products. Advise on debt collection, privacy, consumer credit compliance, and lending/solar financing. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. This role demands a strong legal background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle a demanding workload. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, team player, and committed legal business partner.
Requirements
- Competence as a lawyer with 5-7 years of experience; proven ability to manage a heavy workload in high-pressure environments
- Must have a JD degree from an accredited law school
- Demonstrates strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across departments and with external stakeholders; proactively advises and supports clients
- Exercises sound judgment with the ability to make clear, well-reasoned recommendations and identify key stakeholders who need to be informed
- Must have experience advising mortgage lenders, financial institutions, or fintechs on legal and regulatory consumer credit lending issues
- Self-starter with good business sense and a sense of urgency, honesty, and fairness
- Team player and calm under pressure
- Self-confident and inspires confidence from clients
- Committed to being a legal business partner to internal clients
Responsibilities
- Manage and work on legal, regulatory, and product issues related to mortgage/HELOC financial products and business units, including managing and working with outside counsel and other business units
- Provide advice and support legal, regulatory, and product issues related to debt collection, privacy, consumer credit compliance, lending and solar financing
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and company policies
- Perform other tasks as assigned from time to time by the company
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate with experience handling mortgage/HELOC products, legal issues, litigation and consumer complaints, and examinations preferred
Benefits
$150,000 - $200,000 per year
