Summary

Join Bitwarden as a Senior Database Engineer and lead the design, development, and maintenance of our database systems. You will be a technical leader for database query design and optimization, supporting the software development process and fostering a culture of quality. This is a fully remote role based in the U.S., requiring at least 10 years of database engineering experience and expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL. You will maintain and enhance database performance, assist in designing new database implementations, and establish observability practices. Mentoring engineers and adhering to best practices in data security are also key responsibilities. The starting salary range is $140,000-$200,000.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in database engineering
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
  • Advanced knowledge of other RDBMS systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc
  • Extensive experience with cloud database technologies and architecture
  • Sound knowledge of best practices in cloud database engineering and data security
  • Experience working in some or all of our remaining stack (.NET Core with C#, JavaScript / TypeScript, Angular, Docker)
  • Proficiency using source control
  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset
  • Openness and authenticity combined with excellent communication skills
  • Excitement and enthusiasm for helping customers solve security and password challenges
  • Excellent problem-solving skills โ€“ you might not know all the answers but you know how to find and communicate the solution
  • Zeal for learning and desire to develop yours and your peersโ€™ skills in software development

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance the performance of existing database scripts, queries, and other database objects
  • Assist engineering teams in designing new database implementations that meet the organization's data security, storage, and performance needs
  • Tune existing database scripts and queries for optimal performance and data security
  • Establish database observability practices and monitor databases and related systems to ensure optimized performance alongside operations staff
  • Partner with other engineers to develop new scripts and queries that support company growth
  • Review database and user reports as well as system information
  • Perform debugging procedures on database scripts and systems, including as a part of incident response
  • Mentor engineers and provide them with technical support
  • Adhere to best practices in securely accessing, storing, backing up, and archiving data
  • Document processes related to database design, configuration, and performance
  • Keep abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering
  • Participate in code reviews and learn and spread technical knowledge amongst the engineering organization
