Summary

The job is for a Senior Design Engineer at a consumer product development company. The role involves managing engineering teams, working with NYC and Asia teams, communicating progress, collaborating with engineering teams, ensuring efficient product development cycle, leading design engineering of a product from inception to manufacturing, managing internal team timelines, documenting product assets, building prototypes or scoping external partners for prototyping, guiding testing of samples and prototypes, providing technical feedback and assets to support sourcing & supply chain teams, developing testing standards and QA/QC guidelines, reviewing QA documentation, handling multiple projects, and occasional travel. Requirements include proven experience in Engineering Management within consumer electronics /household appliance industry, leadership and management skills, 7+ years of experience in product development and mechanical engineering with 3+ years of leadership experience, a portfolio with previously launched and manufactured products, proficiency with CAD tools (Solidworks or Onshape preferred), in-depth knowledge of consumer appliance development and design, experience with a wide range of materials and circuit board components, excellent project management skills, strong problem solving and analytical skills, ability to travel to Asia including Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan, ability to work in English, and strong communication and presentation skills.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in Engineering Management within consumer electronics /household appliance industry and related industries focused on mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Leadership and management skills with experience managing engineers
  • 7+ years of experience in product development and mechanical engineering with 3+ years of leadership experience
  • Must have a portfolio with previously launched and manufactured products
  • Highly proficient and deeply familiar with CAD tools (Solidworks or Onshape preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of consumer appliance development and design
  • Experience with a wide range of materials (plastics, metals, rubbers) and knowledge informing the material selection process
  • Familiar with a wide range of circuit board components and electrical components commonly found in automated consumer appliances- comfortable to guide component selection and sourced component testing
  • Excellent project management skills- with experience tracking numerous development projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with proactive issue resolution- creating and guiding team’s root cause analysis and DOE’s
  • Ability to travel to Asia including Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan
  • Ability to work in English
  • Strong Communication and Presentation skills - especially conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering team- overseeing resource allocation and timeline management, leading team through the development work from product definition through manufacturing
  • Work closely with NYC and Asia teams to communicate and determine direction & solve development problems as they arise
  • Communicate progress to partners on the ground in the US/HK and project requirements for development, manufacturing & operational needs to broader internal and external teams
  • Collaborate with us NY/Asia engineering teams to ensure the engineering designs meet client requirements and design intent
  • Ensure efficient product development cycle with detailed prototyping, testing, and validation throughout the process
  • Lead design engineering of a product from inception to manufacturing. Leading, reviewing, and maintaining quality of engineering team output- providing feedback on team’s modeling, prototyping, testing, and design iterations
  • Manage internal team timelines aligning within broader project timelines
  • Manage documentation of product assets (3D, 2D, Samples)
  • Build inhouse prototypes or scope external partners to prototype designs
  • Guide team’s testing of samples and prototypes to validate design
  • Provide technical feedback and assets to support sourcing & supply chain teams, working with PM’s to review quotations from vetted suppliers
  • Develop testing standards and QA/QC guidelines to maintain project quality objectives
  • Reviewing QA documentation and providing feedback for ongoing QA work in mass production
  • Handle multiple projects and work independently while establishing cross-functional partners to ensure production meets company objectives
