Summary

Join AKQA as a Senior Designer for a 3-month freelance contract, applying your artistry and craftsmanship to create exceptional digital experiences. You will take ownership of design across multiple client projects, working in a multidisciplinary environment. This role demands a minimum of 5 years of experience in product design, particularly for web applications, and expertise in tools like Photoshop and Sketch. Strong communication and a deep understanding of web development principles are essential. The position requires proficiency in UI design and iconography, with a preference for experience with Principle and a BA/BFA in Graphic Design. The pay range is $2,400-$2,800 per week. This is a hybrid role with required in-office days.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience in product design (especially for web), defining or extending design systems, and/or working within a brand’s strict style guidelines
  • Demonstrate expertise in Photoshop and Sketch, including file organization, and preparation of pixel-perfect files for design team use
  • Exhibit clear communication and presentation skills that speak to both creative and technical audiences
  • Showcase a strong understanding of web development, including HTML and CSS
  • Display UI experience
  • Demonstrate acuity in iconography
  • Function as a systems thinker with a strong grasp of digital design principles, responsive design, and user experience best practices
  • Be highly skilled in component-based design and design documentation for large-scale digital platforms
  • Work comfortably in a structured, detail-oriented environment where precision and consistency are key
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, developers, and stakeholders to create seamless experiences
  • Show a keen interest in championing brand identity through a balance of consistency and flexibility
  • Exhibit proficiency in the formal elements of design, with a strong focus on typography, balance, and proportion
  • Think systematically; anticipate the impact of design decisions well in advance of their application
  • Possess excellent digital file structure and asset management skills
  • Demonstrate a passion for pixel-perfection and order and unparalleled attention to detail
  • Articulate ideas verbally and digitally; be clearly understood by creative, product management, and development staff
  • Deliver strong design rationale and supporting files in a tight timeframe

Preferred Qualifications

  • Show a working knowledge of Principle
  • Hold a BA or BFA in Graphic Design (or equivalent)
