Summary

Join Marqeta as a Senior Software Engineering Manager and lead strategic investments to enhance developer productivity and happiness. Use management and technical expertise to manage, mentor, and recruit engineers. Build and inspire the developer experience team, fostering a safe environment for innovation. Develop superior tooling and metrics to understand SDLC systems and solve problems for developers. Act as a DevEx evangelist, partnering with engineering teams. Define DevEx survey questions, collect feedback, and define areas of execution. Enable Marqeta developers by driving adoption of Gen-AI apps. Drive adoption of new tools and services, managing expectations with the development community. Work with developers to resolve issues and build scalable solutions. Review and provide feedback on features, technology, and designs. Manage project risks and engage in creative problem-solving. Develop and evolve engineering and business processes. Partner with other teams on common goals.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate is a strong thought leader in the developer productivity space and an experienced software developer
  • You are a self-starter who will drive projects and lead team members to achieve desired outcomes
  • You are an experienced manager who is passionate about developer productivity and happiness
  • Bachelors in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment and craft of your team’s projects, ensuring the delivered solutions are highly relevant to developer productivity and happiness, something users cannot imagine life without
  • Promote and influence a data-driven culture across the organization. Use objective measurement as the primary means of communication, guiding project execution and decision making, and tracking progress
  • Build relationships across Engineering. Conduct regular DevEx surveys within Marqeta, use developers' feedback to build and prioritize a strategy and roadmap for your team, and for products that may span multiple teams and the entire company
  • Be able to articulate your projects, key results and product strategy in simple and clear narratives, easy to connect and comprehend by your team, Marqeta’s developer community and engineering leadership
  • Use your extensive management and technical expertise to manage, mentor and recruit engineers, to promote developer productivity within your team and across Marqeta
  • Build, manage and inspire the developer experience team to achieve the goal of world-class developer experience within Marqeta, recruit engineering talents as needed
  • Establish and foster a team environment for engineers where they can consistently address Marqeta's most significant challenges in a psychologically safe setting, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and experimentation
  • Develop superior tooling and metrics to understand the health of our entire SDLC systems. Establish and foster a data-driven engineering culture
  • Solve problems for developers by understanding their needs and devising both tactical and strategic solutions
  • Act as an evangelist of developer experience and partner with engineering teams to share the Developer Experience’s mission, vision and roadmap
  • Define DevEx survey questions and conduct DevEx surveys across the engineering organization in Marqeta, collect and analyze feedback and define areas of execution to achieve world-class developer experience for all Marqeta engineering teams
  • Enable Marqeta developers by driving adoption of Gen-AI apps with clearly defined success measurement. For example, we use Github copilot and Amazon Q Developer as AI-assisted coding tools
  • Drive adoption of newly created tools and services from your team, manage expectations and communication with the development community and Marqeta’s engineering leadership
  • Work with developers to resolve their day-to-day issues, direct your team to build scalable and self-serviceable solutions to fix or mitigate these issues
  • Review and provide feedback on features, technology, architecture, designs, time & budget estimates, and test strategies
  • Manage projects risks & engage in creative problem solving
  • Develop and evolve engineering and business processes to optimize team efficiency
  • Partner with other teams across Marqeta on achieving common goals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep customer empathy for developers as our primary customer stakeholder, strong passion about driving developer productivity and happiness
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to communicate technical strategy and roadmap in a clear, precise, and actionable manner, Desirable: prior experience of creating and conducting new-hire training bootcamp with successful outcome
  • Proven experience building reliable, high-scale, cost-efficient engineering services and driving for organizational wide adoption
  • 10+ years of hands-on development experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a manager leading software development teams or engineering productivity
  • A commitment to building exceptional, diverse and high-performing teams with strong persuasion and influence skills
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
