Join Global Fishing Watch as a Senior Manager, National Policy to support the delivery of impact goals in regions by identifying and securing landmark policies that embed transparency in key regulations.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree public administration or policy, or equivalent degrees
  • At least 7+ years of experience in policy work, both in national and international settings
  • Demonstrated track record in helping secure national policy instruments related to the oceans or broader environment work
  • Familiarity on fisheries management, marine biodiversity, or ocean governance
  • Experience in policy work and knowledge on transparency as a principle for governance, and understanding of key challenges
  • High level proficiency in program and project management
  • English and additional language in one of the identified regions
  • Highly organized, analytical, detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to a very high standard of detail
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and communicate project updates to stakeholders in a transparent and proactive manner
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while performing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • An understanding of the complexities and internal communications surrounding collaboration in a global matrix and remote organization

Responsibilities

  • Co-develop work plans with the regions to secure identified policy instruments in-country
  • Ensure that work plans and roadmaps are complementary to the larger support of Global Practice and International Policy team
  • Develop and provide regular policy briefings on key challenges and major policy windows in the regions and in the identified core countries
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to the Director of Global Practice and Director of International Policy, including challenges, learnings and cross-regional insights
  • Develop policy roadmaps, modules and toolkits that enable and support the regional teams in their policy and transparency work
  • Develop insights and lessons learned from the experiences of each country, and ensure that these are integrated either through the MEL framework or in knowledge management efforts
  • Develop guidance documents on policy and transparency work and roll out to the broader program team, while ensuring it is consistent with programmatic and organisational principles
  • Develop and support the network of country officers located in five regions by ensuring that the approach to policy and transparency work is consistent and is informed by programmatic principles
  • Regularly convene the network of country officers to share best practices and provide new available tools in helping secure policy pathways
  • Support the development of competencies of the country officers by identifying gaps and opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in international fora like FAO COFI, UN CBD, or engagements with RFMOs
