Summary
Join Oscar's Government Affairs team as a Senior Manager, Public Affairs! This critical role involves communicating Oscar's policy positions to external partners and regulators, educating internal teams on policy trends, and coordinating policy working groups. You will also partner with the Communications team for external engagement, implement systems for tracking interactions with regulators, and work with Finance, Legal & Compliance teams to ensure compliance. This role reports to the EVP, Public Affairs and offers a blended work culture with a remote option. The base pay varies by location and includes additional benefits such as unlimited vacation and annual performance bonuses. This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of healthcare industry experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in legal studies, political science, public policy, public administration, public health or other relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 6+ years of experience in the healthcare industry
Responsibilities
- Support the Directors of Policy and Government Affairs in communicating new developments within Oscar and escalating important issues
- Collaborate with the Communications team to coordinate policy positioning in Oscar's external events and align coalitions and partners to amplify Oscar's messaging
- At the direction of the Director of Policy, manage contracted resources, such as public affairs firms or consultants, to work on Oscar's public affairs strategy
- Establish operating model for bi-directional policy communications - communicating policy developments throughout Oscar and soliciting feedback from Oscar partners to inform policy positioning and advocacy
- Partner with the Corporate Strategy team to ensure policy trends and relevant information to inform Oscar's strategy development. Help develop important metrics to align Public Affairs goals to Oscar's strategy
- Coordinate and draft responses to government requests for information
- Coordinate Oscar's presence and execution at key external meetings (e.g. National Association of Insurance Commissioners, National Governors Association, or fly in events)
- Establish procedures to ensure compliance of lobbying and advocacy events
- Establish and maintain systems for tracking communications with regulators, lobbying expenses, and tracking of necessary department metrics
- Prepare materials for the Operating Committee, Management Committee, and Board on developments in policy and public affairs
- Coordinate department meetings to ensure agreement and execution on key priorities
- Support sustainable processes which simplify our growing team's outputs while ensuring high quality deliverables
- Deliver multiple, simultaneous and diverse assignments while observing deadlines and
- Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years experience with public affairs, public policy or government relations
- Experience working in health insurance or a healthcare technology field
