Summary

Join Milhouse Engineering & Construction as a Senior Protection & Controls Design Engineer in a remote position. This role requires broad knowledge of electrical utility and substation engineering principles and practices, proficiency in protection and control drawings, collaboration with team members, guidance and review of designs, site walkdowns, technical expertise, coordination with vendors, mentoring junior designers, and adherence to project schedules and man-hour estimates. The required background includes a B.S in Electrical Engineering or higher, 9-12 years of electrical utility experience, proficient knowledge of protective relay schemes and applications, clear communication skills, office software proficiency, valid driver's license with safe driving history, familiarity with utility best practices, IEEE, ASME, NESC and NEMA Standards, and experience with PLCs, substation data concentrators, digital fault recorders, and similar equipment.

Requirements

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering or higher
  • 9-12 years of electrical utility experience and knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment
  • Proficient in working on one-line controls, schematics for protective relays including microprocessor relays, control schematics, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA and metering circuits, etc
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
  • Office (Word, Excel), MicroStation, AutoCAD, Acrobat, etc. proficiency
  • Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history

Responsibilities

  • Provide designs of the protection and controls for electrical utility projects for transmission and distribution level voltages within the PSE&G operating territory
  • Proficiency working on protection and control drawings including on-line diagrams, relay protection, control schematics, instrumentation and alarm schematics, SCADA controls, racks and panels views, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and bill of materials
  • Work collaboratively with electrical layout designers, civil designers, electrical project engineers, system protection engineers, construction supervisors, and construction field personnel
  • Provide guidance and reviews of protection and controls designs completed by other A&E's or other junior designers
  • Conduct site walkdowns as required to assess field conditions, evaluate scope of work, compare or verify drawing content, and meet with field personnel and other stakeholders to collaborate project requirements
