Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Airbnb's Trust Engineering team as a Senior Software Engineer and play a critical role in protecting the platform and community from fraud. You will work on the Connected Accounts platform, a knowledge graph that identifies fraudulent users. This role involves hands-on backend engineering, collaboration with other teams, and driving large-scale projects. You'll contribute to product enhancements, infrastructure upgrades, and improving ML model serving. The position requires strong backend engineering experience, expertise in large-scale systems, and excellent communication skills. It's a US-remote eligible position with potential for occasional office work.

Requirements

• Possess 6+ years of backend engineering software development experience
• Hold a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
• Demonstrate strong programming skills (Scala / Python / Java/ C++ or equivalent) for hands-on individual contributor work
• Have experience in designing and building large-scale production systems or features
• Show passion for delivering products end-to-end: from ideation through planning and scoping to implementation and experimental A/B testing
• Possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be detail-oriented
• Be capable of making data-driven decisions and articulating trade-offs in technical decisions
• Have experience mentoring junior developers

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on backend engineering work spanning product enhancements, core infrastructure upgrades, and improving ML model serving
• Collaborate closely with other trust defense and platform teams to address evolving fraud attacks by developing innovative solutions for fraud detection using knowledge graphs
• Collaborate effectively as a teammate to enhance the engineering organization
• Lead and take ownership of projects with broad, open-ended scopes encompassing a product or platform, and contribute to organizational priorities
