Senior Staff Software Engineer

Summary

Join Airbnb's Cloud Infrastructure team as a Senior Staff Engineer and become a technical leader for the lifecycle management of our cloud compute platform. You will enhance the engineering experience, ensuring efficient and effective operations. This crucial platform underpins all Cloud Infrastructure features, guaranteeing consistency across multiple cloud vendors. You'll provide technical leadership on high-impact projects, coach a distributed team, and contribute to the multi-year strategy for evolving Airbnb's Cloud Platform. Your expertise in cloud computing, Kubernetes, and large-scale project execution will be essential. This US-based remote eligible position requires occasional office work or offsite attendance.

Requirements

• BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
• 12+ years of relevant work experience in infrastructure
• 4+ years of expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure as a service offering (e.g. EC2)
• Experience setting technical direction, planning, and successfully executing on large projects spanning multiple teams
• Kubernetes Experience is required

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects
• Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
• Contribute to the multi-year strategy to evolve Airbnb’s Cloud Platform
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance the Airbnb compute platform

Preferred Qualifications

• Istio/Envoy Experience is preferred
• Passionate about efficiency, availability, quality and developer experience
