Join Certus, a company dedicated to providing innovative training and education solutions, as a Senior Tax Accountant. This role involves managing tax-related and GAAP accounting activities, working closely with a third-party tax partner to prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations. You will also be responsible for developing long-term sales tax strategies, compliance, and risk management. This position requires strong accounting and business acumen, experience with third-party tax providers, and a customer service mindset. You will be a key member of the monthly and year-end accounting close, working closely with the Controller and Assistant Controller on key reconciliations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in tax accounting or public account, with significant exposure to taxation and tax return preparation, with a strong overall accounting and business acumen
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving mindset. Bias to challenge the status quo and develop better approaches
- Experience working with a 3rd party tax provider
- Experience developing and evolving sales tax strategies/implementations
- A business partner/customer service mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willing and able to communicate proactively and directly with business leadership and stakeholders on a regular basis
- Ability to accurately evaluate and set priorities and manage time effectively
- Flexibility to adapt, recalibrate and adjust to changing business conditions and /or business priorities. Must be able to manage numerous work items at one time with a high sense of urgency
- Excellent organizational skills and with a high attention to detail
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills with high level of ability to evaluate large data sets
- Active CPA required, Masterβs Degree a plus
- Deliver accurate accounting and financial reporting for Certus business, with effective underlying internal controls
- Be a thought leader in continuously challenging the status quo to improve processes and efficiency
Responsibilities
- Key member of the monthly and year end accounting close, working closely with the Controller and Assistant Controller on key reconciliations
- Assist 3rd party in preparing federal, state, and local tax returns
- Evaluating and responding to tax requests from regulatory agencies, including federal, state, and local governments
- Staying current on tax law changes and conducting research to determine the impact on the organization
- Work with 3rd party and auditors in preparation of tax provision
- Review revenue and product mixes to ensure the business is aligned with tax laws and guidelines
- Assist in reviewing and updating internal tax processes and controls for efficiency and accuracy
- Ensure NetSuite and internal systems are calculating and applying sales tax appropriately
- Perform tax research, staying up to date on changes
- Support tax requests and tax audits
- Support GAAP audit
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Benefits
This position will have a base pay between $110,000 - $120,000 and will be eligible for up to a 5% bonus annually
