Summary
Join IOG, a technology company focused on blockchain research and development, as a Software Engineer. You will be responsible for writing high-quality code for our products, working with cutting-edge research and technology, and collaborating with a team of software architects, product managers, project managers, formal methods specialists, and QA test engineers. You will be joining the Hydra team, helping to build one of the key L2 technologies in the Cardano ecosystem. This role involves following agile software development practices, working with teams across multiple time zones, and being proactive in completing tasks with minimal supervision. You will also be responsible for reviewing specifications, writing clean and efficient code, committing often, submitting small pull requests, covering your code with tests, reviewing pull requests, fixing bugs, integrating software components, verifying and deploying programs, troubleshooting, debugging, upgrading software, writing documentation, and being knowledgeable of cryptography basics.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years development experience (professional or otherwise) in Haskell
- Experience working with Git
- Practical experience with Agile software development methods
- Write idiomatic code that satisfies the acceptance criteria of a given task
- Write tests (unit tests, property tests) that provide sufficient and non-superfluous efficient code coverage
- Document code and APIs concisely and unambiguously
- Break down tasks into sub-tasks that are completable in a short amount of time and report completion as required by managers
- Pragmatically adhere to software engineering principles (modularity, incremental development, no premature optimization, no feature creep, no speculative generality, ...)
- Good understanding of Quickcheck/Hedgehog and property testing
- Good understanding of concurrent programming / concurrency
Responsibilities
- Follow agile software development practices
- Work with teams across multiple time zones
- Work independently on software development tasks
- Be proactive and require minimal supervision or mentoring to complete tasks
- Review specifications produced by architects and formal methods specialists
- Write clean, straightforward, efficient code that satisfies previously agreed acceptance criteria and specifications
- Commit often and submit small pull requests frequently
- Cover your code with unit, property and integration tests when applicable
- Review the pull requests of your team mates
- Fix bugs in your own code and in legacy code from others
- Be available for emergency fixing of severity 1 issues on deployed products
- Integrate software components and third-party libraries
- Verify and deploy programs and systems
- Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing software
- Write documentation for the code
- Write technical user manuals
- Be knowledgeable of the basics of cryptography
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in similar languages: PureScript, Elm, Idris, Agda, Ocaml, F#
- Proficiency with advanced FP techniques such as: Advanced functional data structures, Dependent types, Extensible effects, Generic programming, Streaming, Type-level programming
- Experience in web technologies useful: HTML/CSS/JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience with build systems: Nix/Docker
- Experience with web services development and RESTful APIs
- Distributed system and network development
- A track record of delivering software projects from start to finish
- Proficiency in software development best practices, including design, implementation, testing, and debugging
- Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment pipelines
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Prior experience with cryptography protocol development or Web3 would be a valuable addition
