Software Engineer II - Backend

Summary

Join Smartsheet's Developer Productivity team as a Software Engineer II and contribute to enhancing the speed and quality of our software development lifecycle. You will design, build, and maintain testing frameworks, infrastructure, and automation pipelines. This role offers the chance to work with a modern tech stack while modernizing legacy systems, impacting our microservices architecture and monolith. You'll collaborate with engineers and product managers, mentor junior engineers, and partner with other business areas. Leverage AI tools to boost team efficiency and explore AI integration opportunities. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and can be remote from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

Requirements

• 2+ years software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications
• 2+ years of programming experience with full stack technologies such Java, Kotlin or TypeScript
• 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
• Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs
• 6+ months professional experience leveraging AI to improve personal productivity in service of building complex SaaS feature sets
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis

Responsibilities

• Build scalable back-end services for the next generation of applications at Smartsheet (Kotlin, Java)
• Solve challenging distributed systems problems and work with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes)
• Take part in code reviews and architectural discussions as you work with other software engineers and product managers
• Mentor junior engineers on code quality and other industry best practices
• Forge a strong partnership with product management and other key areas of the business
• Actively use AI tools to improve personal and team efficiency across coding, testing, design, and troubleshooting, exploring AI integration opportunities within team processes and features, and coaching others on effective AI use
