Remote Software Engineer II, Distributed Systems, Backend

Summary

Join the Distributed Systems Team at Sumo Logic as a Software Engineer to build and improve Kafka messaging infrastructure, management tools, and observability, collaborating closely with other teams to ensure effective use of tools and libraries.

Requirements

• B.S. or higher in Computer Sciences or related discipline
• 2 to 4 years of industry experience with a track record of ownership and delivery
• Ability to code proficiently in Java or Scala
• Experience with data serialization frameworks such as AVRO and/or GRPC
• Experience in running large scalable distributed services following a microservice architecture
• Experience in designing, developing, and implementing enterprise wide solutions based on Java Technologies (Java, J2EE, Web Services)
• Experience with cloud native environments built on public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Demonstrated implementation of high-availability concepts
• Excellent troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

• Build and improve Kafka messaging infrastructure, management tools, and observability
• Build and evolve other critical infrastructures and associated libraries and tools: Zookeeper, Leader Election, Service Discovery, RPC/SOA framework, etc
• Collaborate closely with other teams to ensure the effective use of tools, libraries, and frameworks developed by this team
• Facilitate cross-team efforts to keep common libraries up to date, addressing security vulnerabilities and enabling the adoption of new features
