Summary

The job is for a remote Staff Writer position at Live Science, a science news and photos platform. The employee will contribute to all areas of the site, cover a range of science topics, and report to the Editor in Chief. The expected output is 20 articles per month with occasional feature stories.

Requirements

• 2+ years of editorial writing experience with a journalism background
• Great knowledge of science topics, an ability to research and learn, and previous experience writing about the subject matter
• An appropriate qualification or degree in sciences

Responsibilities

• Contribute to all areas of the site - from news to features to reference pages
• Cover a range of science topics, combining writing experience with expert quotes and research papers, to create reliable, up-to-date content that appeals to anyone with an interest in the subject matter
• Report to the Editor in Chief and be edited by the Managing Editor
• Write about 20 articles a month, with occasional feature stories throughout
• Upload articles to the CMS, finding appropriate images and related articles to link to
• Fact/source check all articles and ensure they fit Live Science’s house style
• Work with the Audience team to SEO improve content
• Interview and work with leading figures in science to make sure our features and news are informed by qualified experts

A good list of contacts in the science industry is preferable, but not required
