The job is for a Student Success Coach in Project Kitty Hawk, a nonprofit ed tech company helping UNC System grow adult learners. The role involves providing academic advising, coaching, identifying at-risk students, data analysis, and maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field
• At least 2 years of experience working in academic advising or related student support services with adult students in an online higher education setting
• Demonstrated experience coaching individuals, particularly in an educational or support context, to enhance their academic and personal development
• Knowledge of the challenges and needs specific to adult learners in higher education
• Knowledge of and experience with CRM, LMS, SIS platforms and other technologies used in online higher education and student management
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with adult students
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
• Knowledge of relevant academic policies and procedures
• Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
• Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment

Responsibilities

• Provide personalized academic advising to adult students
• Help adult students select appropriate courses, create educational plans, and understand degree requirements
• Utilize relevant coaching principles and strategies to promote student self-awareness and inspire action
• Collaborate with students to identify their educational and career goals, create a clear roadmap for success, and monitor their progress
• Offer guidance and resources to improve study skills, time management, and organizational techniques to enhance academic performance
• Address the unique challenges faced by adult students, including work-life balance, time constraints, and financial concerns, by offering tailored solutions and referrals to relevant support services
• Assist students in navigating resources, including libraries, tutoring and personal wellness resources
• Encourage students to explore career pathways and resources and foster a holistic approach to education and future employment
• Identify at-risk students, develop intervention plans, and actively engage in outreach efforts to re-engage and retain adult learners
• Analyze and interpret data to effectively support students and improve student success

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field
• Certification in Academic Coaching or a related coaching discipline
