We're seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) by developing and implementing system scope and network infrastructures.

Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in information technology or similar
  • 7 years of experience in related field (or 11 years of experience with no bachelorโ€™s degree)
  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux based environments
  • Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (e.g.,Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX)
  • Solid Cloud experience, preferably in AWS
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box)
  • Experience with monitoring systems
  • Experience with automation software (e.g., Puppet, cfengine, Chef)
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a team supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) by disseminating data to researchers who are studying ways to improve the quality and reduce the cost of care provided to chronically ill Medicare beneficiaries
  • Develop and implement the system scope and the network and system infrastructures defined in combination with system architect
  • Analyze and address the performance and potential adverse effects on the system infrastructure. Lead the integrations and design of the relevant systems within the scope of the project
  • Manage infrastructure and network optimal performance with proactive planning by up-keeping current security, patching, performance fine tuning
  • Use expert-level administration and optimization of hosts and servers to ensure high degree of availability and appropriate resource management
  • Standardize and automate processes using scripting technology
  • Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware components, and leverage IT staff for routine tasks by clearly documenting design, maintenance, and support procedures
  • Test software routinely for bugs, redundancies, and security issues
  • Conduct high-level root-cause analysis of service interruptions and establish preventive measures
