Underwriter

Summary

Join Orchard's expanding team as a Senior Mortgage Underwriter, ensuring loans meet GSE and internal requirements. You will review conventional mortgages, communicate loan decisions, maintain turn times on applications, and stay current on underwriting guidelines and GSE updates. Mentoring loan processors and providing solutions to loan officers to improve file quality is also part of the role. Administrative support on special projects and fostering a positive team environment are expected. This full-time, remote position requires 5+ years of conventional mortgage underwriting experience, 2+ years in appraisal and self-employed borrower underwriting, and a DE from FHA and SARS with VA. The position is available remotely in several states.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience underwriting conventional 1st mortgage loans
• 2+ years of underwriting appraisals
• 2+ years of underwriting Self Employed borrowers using a cash flow analysis
• A DE from FHA and SARS with VA is required
• Ability to manage and monitor your loan pipeline while working independently
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and collaboration skills
• Ability to quickly learn new technology systems, and provide critical feedback
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high production environment

Responsibilities

• Review Conventional Mortgage and clearly communicate the loan decisions and/or requirements to all parties
• Maintain manager approved turn times on mortgage applications, while being able to prioritize urgent files that are at risk of missing key loan milestones
• Maintain working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and mortgage compliance, while staying current on all GSE updates
• Act as a mentor and coach to our Loan Processors, and provide working solutions to our Loan Officers to improve file quality and salability
• Provide administrative support to the underwriting department on special projects or product development, as needed
• Foster a team environment that is in line with Orchard Values and Culture
