Underwriter

Summary

Join Real Life Lending as a Mortgage Underwriter to process and manage new mortgage applications from selected intermediaries. You will assess applications, review supporting documents and credit reports, and ensure compliance with company lending policies and regulatory standards. This role requires proven underwriting experience in the secured lending market, a strong understanding of the regulatory environment, and excellent communication skills. You will work collaboratively with brokers and internal teams, making recommendations to the Underwriting Manager when necessary. Requirements

• Proven underwriting experience within the secured lending or residential or commercial mortgage market
• Understanding of the regulatory environment and in particular focussed on Customer Outcomes
• Experience of dealing with brokers and third parties
• Technology skills - including MS Excel and Word
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
• Strong planning and problem solving skills

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all applications and/or associated documents received into the department are processed, accurately and in a timely manner meeting the department service levels
• Assess the mortgage application and supporting documents in line with the company’s Lending Policy
• Review information provided by the Credit Reference Agencies and other support partners including anti-fraud agencies, ensuring a full understanding of the applicant’s credit/risk profile
• Review and approve the applicants overall affordability results
• Instruct property valuers to undertake property valuation. Once received, review valuation and assess the key variables including comparables provided
• Prepare mortgage offers, understanding the legal implications of any mortgage conditions applied to the offer
• Utilize the Mortgage Application System to ensure all mortgage applications are processed in line with the company’s service standards
• Liaise directly with intermediaries on the application ensuring information requested is received as well as providing an excellent level of service to the intermediary
• Recommend loans to the Underwriting Manager where they fall outside of the lending mandate held, providing an appropriate rationale
• Consider and apply the principles of Consumer Duty throughout the application process
