Viral Fellow

Summary

Join BuzzFeed's Viral Fellowship, a year-long program for aspiring writers to hone their skills and create engaging content. The program provides a crash course in creating viral content, utilizing audience data and trend insights. Fellows will learn to identify social trends, collaborate with the BuzzFeed team, and pitch and write stories published on BuzzFeed.com and promoted across social channels. This paid fellowship offers fully remote work options in select locations, with opportunities for in-office work in NY or LA. Fellows will receive bonus compensation based on exceeding performance benchmarks. The deadline to apply is June 20, 2025.

Requirements

• Have a positive, curious, playful disposition
• Have a genuine, wide-eyed love of pop culture and internet trends in all their forms
• Have an interest in social platforms and what drives people to share content
• Demonstrate curiosity and excitement about social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.)
• Demonstrate curiosity and excitement about utilizing emerging AI technology to create unique and entertaining content
• Have some experience creating content for the internet
• Be able to quickly identify social trends and topics
• Be able to handle critical feedback and improve from it
• Demonstrate eagerness to collaborate
• Be able to interpret key audience data points relating to your work and use it to adapt and evolve your approach moving forward
• Submit a few short paragraphs about what topics you’d want to write about for BuzzFeed, and what interests you about the content BuzzFeed makes
• Create a BuzzFeed.com/community profile, and create 1-2 posts that reflect your voice and interests
• Provide links to your public social media accounts
• Attach a resume — keep it to one page!

Responsibilities

• Create content that captures readers’ attention, pushes the cultural conversation forward, and reaches a massive audience
• Learn to get obsessed with how content is packaged and how to keep finding huge audiences
• Research behind-the-scenes facts and Easter eggs about a trending piece of pop culture
• Curate the funniest content from around the web
• Report on the trending topic of the day
• Work with and learn from members of the BuzzFeed team
• Pitch ideas
• Take assignments
• Brainstorm
• Collaborate
• Write dozens of stories that will be published to BuzzFeed.com and promoted across our social channels
• Meet goals related to output and article performance
