Summary

Join 31st Union as a Writer for a 12-month contract and contribute to the development of online multiplayer games. You will be responsible for creating vibrant and diverse characters, crafting engaging storylines, and collaborating with design, art, and sound teams. The role requires a minimum of 3 years of professional writing experience with at least one shipped title in a narrative or systems design role, preferably in the multiplayer/action space. Proficiency in modern game engines like Unreal and Unity is essential. You will work closely with other writers and narrative designers, conduct research, provide feedback, and participate in playtesting. Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional writing experience, and at least 1 shipped title in a narrative or systems design role, preferably in the multiplayer/action space
  • Experienced in crafting dialogue, barks, characters, and storylines for games, with proficiency in modern game engines such as Unreal and Unity
  • Familiar with the unique challenges of design and storytelling in games, with a knack for developing creative solutions to enhance the development process
  • Skilled in rapid iteration and collaboration based on feedback, especially when under tight deadlines and production constraints
  • Strong passion for storytelling in games and an understanding of how to create representative and authentic characters by leveraging knowledge of today's pop culture and entertainment landscape

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of other writers and narrative designers to develop and execute the game’s vision
  • Contribute to the further development of existing characters and storylines by writing and iterating on compelling, character-building dialogue
  • Write descriptions of the world, characters, and history to serve as a resource for the game’s overall development
  • Collaborate deeply with other disciplines and serve as a resource for other team members, inspiring and providing context to the content they are creating
  • Conduct research and documentation, perform necessary editing tasks, provide feedback on works in progress through daily playtesting, and engage in hands-on engine work to bring ideas to life

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity working in Google Suit, Microsoft Suit, and in-engine experience is a plus!
  • A passion for diversity & representation in games & game development
  • A self-starter who can align with the team's goals but isn't hesitant to pitch their own creative solutions
