API Developer Intern

Summary

Join VetsEZ as a remote API Developer Intern and gain hands-on experience in modern API development within a large federal government project. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates in Computer Science or related fields seeking practical experience in healthcare IT systems. You will collaborate with experienced developers, learning valuable tools like Git, Postman, and Jira, while contributing to impactful projects. VetsEZ supports both full-time and part-time schedules, offering flexibility for students. The position requires residing within the continental US and obtaining a Federal Government clearance (assistance provided). This role provides opportunities to develop real-world skills and contribute to meaningful work.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Basic experience with object-oriented programming (e.g., Java, Python) and either RESTful APIs or SQL (all three preferred)
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder, Agile, and DevSecOps environment
• Must be able to obtain a Federal Government clearance (VetsEZ will assist in this process)

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and debug RESTful APIs using modern programming practices
• Collaborate with senior developers and technical teams to support software development initiatives
• Learn and become proficient with tools and technologies, including Git, version control, JSON, and API testing tools
• Assist in maintaining code documentation and version control processes
• Support Agile development practices and participate in sprint planning and reviews
• Engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting for development challenges
• Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Git and version control is a plus
• Experience with JSON and API testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger) is a plus
• Familiarity with Jira or other Agile project management tools is a plus
