Whatnot is a fast-growing livestream shopping platform and marketplace backed by major investors. They are hiring a Discovery Engineer to build the best user experience for finding and engaging with content on their platform. The role involves understanding, building, and maintaining a healthy ecosystem, focusing on taxonomy, browse experience, search, and recommendations algorithms. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of software engineering experience, a degree in Computer Science or related field, expertise in designing and building scalable backend systems, excellent product instincts, and the ability to mentor others.

Requirements

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Expert at designing and building scalable and maintainable backend systems

Responsibilities

• Building the best user experience for finding and engaging with the most relevant content on the platform: streams, products, and others in the community
• Focusing on a wide variety of problems: taxonomy, browse experience, search and recommendations algorithms, as well as content understanding
