Join Altarum as their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and lead the organization in developing and executing its financial strategy. This hands-on role involves managing finance and accounting functions, supporting operational and financial goals, and identifying revenue growth opportunities. The CFO will foster a collaborative and accountable culture, setting clear goals and driving improved performance. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, extensive experience in government contracting, and a proven ability to manage complex financial operations. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement (DMV area preferred, remote considered) and a competitive benefits package. Requirements
- Agile and forward-looking leader with deep experience in government contracting
- Highly skilled in identifying and managing key drivers for the organization’s financial health and leads in a manner that ensures key results, business goals, and strategic objectives are achieved consistently
- Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty and adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations
- Adept at taking calculated risks, seeking input and data from various sources to anticipate potential threats or unintended consequences of decisions
- High degree of integrity and forethought in their approach to making decisions; they act in a transparent and consistent manner while always considering what is best for the organization
- Command of Federal government contracting, including regulatory compliance, indirect rate management, and Federal reporting and audits
- Perseverance in the face of challenges and exhibits a steadfast resolve and relentless commitment to higher standards, which commands respect from followers
- Self-reflective and aware of their own limitations; they lead by example and drive the organization's performance with an attitude of continuous improvement by being open to feedback and self-improvement

- BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university; graduate degree preferred
- 15+ years of finance experience, with at least 5 years of recent executive-level finance experience and at least five years of recent federal government contractor experience
- Must have recent, strong experience with the use and functionality of Deltek Costpoint ERP system
- CPA required
- At this time, we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship
- Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract
- If you are local to our offices in Arlington, Silver Spring, Novi, or Portland this role will be hybrid (in office on Wednesdays - collaboration days)
- Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager
- Employees working remotely must have a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions with a mobile device that allows for productive and efficient conduct of business

- Lead managers of departments and indirectly, their employees
- Plan, develop, implement, and direct the organization’s business systems and fiscal function to ensure that the organization meets all financial needs and remains compliant
- Analyze and make recommendations on the impact of growth initiatives and new strategies, as well as regularly track regulatory and compliance requirements
- Ensure that the organization meets its financial objectives by developing and implementing with the leadership team new initiatives for growing revenue and margin
- Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
- Ensure the company has rigorous and disciplined forecasting and reporting processes that are timely and accurate
- Provide strategic input and leadership on decisions affecting the organization; function as a strategic advisor and consultant offering expert advice on contracts, negotiations, and/or other business activity Altarum is considering
- Further develop strong banking relationships and grow strategic financial partnerships
- Establish a highly skilled, customer-oriented finance and accounting staff
- Effectively lead and manage the facilities function, including leasing and building management, while maintaining flexibility to oversee other administrative functions as assigned
