Summary

Join Walden University as a dynamic, part-time faculty member in the Ph.D. in Social Work and DSW programs. This contributing role involves teaching online courses, mentoring student research, and providing timely feedback. Faculty members utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) and are expected to maintain regular online presence. Opportunities for participation in residencies (domestically or internationally) exist, though not mandatory. Successful candidates will possess a Ph.D. or DSW in social work, relevant experience, and a commitment to Walden's mission. Compensation is based on factors such as course type, experience, and location, with additional opportunities for dissertation committee work and research.

Requirements

  • Possess an earned Ph.D. or DSW from an accredited university in social work
  • Have an MSW from a Council for Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program
  • Have experience sitting on/chairing dissertation committees
  • Possess a significant record of academic (i.e., publications, presentations) and/or professional contributions to the field of study
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program
  • Have a minimum of 3 years post-MSW social work practice experience
  • Have a commitment to supporting student success in a diverse population of adult learners
  • Have a commitment to the social change mission of Walden University
  • Have experience with Learning Management Systems and leveraging technology in learning

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses and mentor student research
  • Effectively and proficiently use online technology and resources to impart knowledge, information, feedback, and critique to students
  • Interact with students within the LMS
  • Be in the classroom a minimum of 4 days per week and respond to student questions within 48 hours
  • Provide timely feedback, approval, assessment, and evaluation of each student's work
  • Maintain licenses and certifications to continue teaching at Walden University
  • Maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations
  • Publish and acknowledge Walden University if participating in research
  • Fully participate in university events and residencies when traveling
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have one year of online teaching experience
  • Have proficiency with SPSS for quantitative faculty and/or NVivo for qualitative faculty

Benefits

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course
  • Opportunities for dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring
  • Walden provides a Walden e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, university and college listservs, and other faculty communications tools
  • Hybrid work model with three in-office days and two remote days per week (transitioning to four-day in-office schedule in Q1 2025)
