Controller

Summary

The Controller will oversee financial operations of a non-profit organization, ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and providing strategic analysis. Key responsibilities include financial reporting, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, grant management, payroll administration, team leadership, and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and compliance requirements
• Experience with financial management systems, accounting software, especially QuickBooks, Bill.com, and advanced proficiency in Excel
• Proven ability to manage audits, budgets, and financial reporting in a nonprofit setting
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated leadership and team management experience

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Provide analysis of financial performance and trends to senior management
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards
• Lead the annual budgeting process
• Prepare financial forecasts and long-term financial plans
• Implement, monitor, and improve internal financial controls
• Oversee annual audits and tax filings (Form 990)
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
• Ensure compliance with all financial aspects of grants
• Collaborate with the development team to track and report on donor-restricted funds
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws
• Supervise and support the finance and accounting team

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA certification or equivalent advanced degree
• Experience with grant management and reporting
• Familiarity with nonprofit tax regulations and Form 990 preparation
