Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee a team, manage all accounting functions, and build scalable systems. Requirements

- Financial Leadership & Integrity: Have at least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 4 or more years in a leadership role
- GAAP Mastery & Technical Excellence: Be fluent in GAAP and technical accounting standards and have successfully managed financial operations for organizations with $40M+ across multiple entities, including 501(c)4 and 501(c)(3)
- Systems Thinker & Operational Builder: Be a systems thinker who understands how financial infrastructure supports long-term strategy

Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and monthly close
- Review the monthly close process and prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Collaborate with colleagues across teams/departments, making funder requirements less intimidating, bringing clarity to budgets
- Work cross-functionally to scope improvements to accounting systems and tools
- Coordinate with auditors to ensure a seamless audit process
- Review and refine financial policies and internal controls
- Meet with department leads to review forecasts, explain variances, and offer guidance
- Oversee grant and restricted fund accounting, ensuring compliance and accuracy
- Identify areas where processes, systems, or structures need to evolve and propose thoughtful, scalable solutions
- Mentor team members, celebrate wins, and identify new opportunities for growth
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation
- Experience supporting participatory budgeting and/or collaborative financial planning
