Summary

Join Care Access's Legal & Compliance team as a Counsel, Privacy and Innovation! This key role provides strategic legal advice on global data privacy and protection, supporting clinical trial operations and data-driven initiatives. You will partner with clinical and operations teams, draft and negotiate data-related contracts, and advise on emerging technologies. The ideal candidate possesses extensive GDPR and HIPAA experience, strong knowledge of US privacy laws, and excellent communication skills. This remote position requires less than 10% travel and offers a competitive benefits package. Requirements

  • Be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa
  • Have a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
  • Have 3-6+ years of legal experience, including substantive GDPR experience and direct involvement in HIPAA and U.S. privacy law
  • Be licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States and eligible for in-house corporate practice in state of residence

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and practical legal advice on global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and other U.S. state and federal privacy laws
  • Partner with clinical and operations teams to advise on privacy and data protection matters related to clinical research activities, including cross-border data transfers, site operations, and subject data rights
  • Draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, data sections of clinical trial agreements, licensing deals, and other contracts involving company, personal or sensitive data
  • Act as a trusted legal advisor to teams across the company to develop practical, risk-adjusted solutions that enable innovation and support compliance
  • Support legal risk assessments and compliance for emerging technologies involving personal data
  • Contribute to legal review of IP licensing arrangements, commercial transactions, and research collaborations
  • Provide support on broader regulatory and compliance matters, including healthcare, research ethics, and evolving privacy frameworks in the U.S. and abroad
  • Proactively support and advise emerging business lines and new initiatives to drive business growth while mitigating risk
  • Perform other legal tasks and special projects as assigned by legal leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have experience advising on clinical trials, healthcare, or life sciences privacy matters
  • Demonstrate experience drafting and negotiating privacy-related and commercial contracts
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of international data protection law frameworks, particularly in Europe and North America
  • Have experience with intellectual property (copyrights, trade secrets, and trademarks), technology licensing, and regulatory law
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with a practical, problem-solving mindset
  • Be business-minded, collaborative, and able to manage complex issues across jurisdictions with professionalism and good judgment
  • Work effectively in a self-directed remote environment
  • Have a proper home office set-up including a private space for legal communication and high-speed internet (at minimum: 100MB up and 15 MB down, 5 GHz router)
  • Possess high attention to detail
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be a critical thinker and problem solver
  • Have CIPP or other similar certifications
