Design Lead

Summary

Join the VRChat team as a Design Lead to shape world-class social experiences. Lead the design strategy and execution for creator-facing tools and workflows, including the VRChat Creator Companion. Understand the needs of the diverse creator community, develop user segmentation, and craft a design vision that empowers user-generated content creators. Report to the VP of Design and collaborate with leads across the Creators group, Design Leadership team, and the executive team. Play a key role in shaping VRChat’s long-term strategy for building a powerful, inclusive, and scalable creator ecosystem. This is a 100% remote position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience
• 5+ years of proven experience in a design lead role at a high-growth, consumer-facing company, ideally in a fast-paced startup environment
• Demonstrated success leading high-performing design teams, with a strong record of both strategic leadership and hands-on contribution
• Portfolio showcasing a breadth of design leadership and execution, ideally focused on creator experiences and tools
• Deep understanding of design principles, industry trends, and emerging technologies
• Strong communicator with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and advocate for design to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experienced in cross-platform design, including spatial and 3D interfaces and tools. Experience with social immersive platforms preferred
• Skilled in managing time and priorities—able to navigate ambiguity, make trade-offs, and drive focus in a dynamic environment

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver intuitive tools that help creators build engaging avatars, worlds, and monetized experiences across VR, mobile, and beyond
• Drive strategy for the creator ecosystem, including tools, workflows, support, and community needs—grounded in research and aligned with company goals
• Own end-to-end design execution, contributing hands-on work while guiding and reviewing design output across concepts, systems, and UI
• Develop scalable resources—guidelines, examples, and learning materials—to support creator success in expression, monetization, and cross-platform design
• Mentor and lead designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence, while advocating for creator needs across teams
• Champion design thinking and innovation by staying current on trends and promoting best practices company-wide
