Summary
Join Xero's Design team as a Design Technologist to enhance prototyping capabilities. You will collaborate with designers to create high-fidelity prototypes, refine existing ones, and champion front-end best practices. Responsibilities include working with research colleagues, mentoring designers, and contributing to the Design System. You'll need proven front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), a strong portfolio showcasing scalable applications, and familiarity with modern build tools and version control. Requirements
- Proven proficiency front end technologies such as HTML, CSS (Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript, with a strong focus on responsive design and web accessibility (WCAG)
- A portfolio showcasing your ability to build scalable, modular applications using component-based architecture with Next.js/React or similar
- Familiarity with modern build tools (e.g., Vite, Babel, ESLint, Prettier), version control (Git/GitHub), and deployment processes
- Practical experience working with design tokens and Figma for design specifications
- Experience improving and documenting technical assets like boilerplates
- Portfolio of work that displays both design and technology experience
Responsibilities
- You’ll report to an Australia-based manager within the Design team, leading our prototyping efforts
- You’ll partner closely with other designers to accelerate our work by creating high-fidelity, functional prototypes for use across all design phases, from initial concept exploration to user testing and informing final development
- You’ll collaborate with your peers to refine and improve existing prototypes and explore more efficient prototyping approaches, helping to define and champion front-end best practices going forward
- You’ll work with research colleagues to ensure prototypes are robust and effectively address user research objectives
- You’ll play a key role in educating and mentoring other designers on best practices and techniques for advanced prototyping
- You’ll contribute to the definition and creation of new patterns for our Design System, ensuring consistency and scalability across our products
- You’ll be an advocate for exceptional product experiences for our customers, ensuring prototypes effectively demonstrate and validate these experiences
