Summary

Join Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) as a Development Intern and support our fundraising efforts. Reporting to the grant writer, you will assist with prospective research and major donor support, and learn to prepare grant materials. This part-time (20 hours/week), remote-first internship runs for 6-8 weeks (May-June or June-July). The ideal candidate is passionate about press freedom, possesses excellent writing and research skills, and is comfortable working interdepartmentally. The position pays $16.50/hour and requires legal authorization to work in the U.S. This is a great opportunity to learn about nonprofit fundraising.

Requirements

  • Passion for the First Amendment and protecting the press freedom rights of all
  • Excellent writing, analytical, verbal, and research skills
  • Comfortable and confident working interdepartmentally
  • Open to students entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate study, or currently enrolled in a graduate program

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research for new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, individuals, and other nongovernmental agencies
  • Write grant reports
  • Work on end-of-year campaign collateral
  • Prospect research
  • Collaborate with the FPF team at large to gather resources of interest to funders
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the grant writer

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with standard journalism practices and ethics
