Summary
Join The Intercept, an award-winning digital news organization, as a full-time Development Officer. Support the development team by managing communications, leading major donor research, and supporting the major giving pipeline. Responsibilities include detail-oriented administrative and research work, high-touch major gifts fundraising, and collaborating with other staff to reach fundraising goals. The ideal candidate has nonprofit fundraising experience, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for The Intercept's mission. The position is primarily remote but may require some travel and evening/weekend work. This role reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and works closely with senior leadership.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience is required
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Respect and passion for The Interceptβs investigative mission, and knowledge of its place within the wider media landscape
- Proven meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Proven strong research and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities on long- and short-term deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle sensitive information and manage confidentiality
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Chief Philanthropy Officer to conduct prospecting and establish robust engagement plans for stewardship and solicitation of members and prospects, with the goal of adding to our pipeline of major giving supporters and increasing giving levels
- Establish efficient wealth screening process to identify first-time donors with significant capacity for an alternative engagement strategy using existing CRMs (Salesforce and ActionKit) and wealth screening tools (iWave)
- Collaborate with the Business Coordinator to ensure data hygiene of development pledges and gifts
- Event leadership: in-person & virtual event logistics implementation when needed, coordination with event project manager, and post-event analysis
- Manage campaigns and campaign resources, including the annual report and regular mailings
- Create and manage donor database reports with the CRM systems (Salesforce and ActionKit) to support major-donor fundraising goals, collaborating with Membership and Product teams to use analytics in order to ensure data integrity and accuracy in reporting
- Manage internal development documentation, including the Development Handbook
