DevOps Engineer in Canada

Summary

Athennian is looking for a motivated and collaborative DevOps Engineer to join their Cloud Security and Infrastructure team. The role involves building and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure, optimizing existing deployment tooling and infrastructure, collaborating with engineering teams, providing DevOps domain expertise, setting up and maintaining test environments, conducting vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, and performing routine application maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in DevOps or related fields, a strong understanding of cloud technologies such as AWS, experience running and managing systems on a cloud platform, knowledge of database technologies, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux Systems, Terraform, Packer, and Agile development. Additional skills such as AWS DevOps Engineer certification and experience with cloud-based security protocols are preferred.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, and/or automation engineering
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies such as AWS
• Experience with running and managing systems and services on a cloud platform (AWS)
• Strong understanding of database technologies such as MongoDB
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes & Linux Systems
• Knowledge of Terraform and Packer
• Experience deploying cloud services, monitoring, alerting, and handling critical issues
• Agile development experience
• Works well in a team environment, as well as independently
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
• The ability to work without close supervision and thrive in an autonomous working environment that allows for high levels of freedom
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Technical curiosity and desire for continuous learning

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain cloud based infrastructure
• Collaborate with engineering teams to solve operational problems
• Design and implement solutions, tools and practices that help increase operational productivity at a large scale
• Work closely with Engineering stakeholders to design and maintain a reliable, scalable and secure platform
• Optimize existing deployment Tooling and Infrastructure
• Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions
• Provide DevOps domain expertise for existing projects and new initiatives
• Set up and maintain test environments for manual and automated testing
• Conduct and analyze results of vulnerability scanning and penetration testing and action findings
• Plan and perform ongoing routine application maintenance tasks
• Participate in on-call rotations for monitoring and alerting
• Identify cost saving opportunities within our infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS DevOps Engineer certification
• Experience with Cloud based security protocols
