The role requires 3+ years of Linux and PHP development experience, with a strong WordPress focus. You'll collaborate with various teams, drive continuous improvement, and ensure high-quality, secure code. Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on Linux experience, ideally with Ubuntu, and the ability to handle SysOps tasks confidently
  • 3+ years of PHP development experience, with a strong focus on WordPress-specific projects (plugins, themes, or core contributions)
  • Familiarity with deployment and automation toolsโ€”experience with Ansible or similar technologies is a plus
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and experience troubleshooting performance, scalability, or reliability issues in production environments

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Maintain PHP Integrations - Take ownership of developing and maintaining PHP-based tools and plugins, with a focus on the Kinsta must-use plugin and other key integrations, such as the internal APM system
  • Contribute to Platform Development - Collaborate with the DevOps team to enhance platform tools and infrastructure, focusing on automation, scalability, and system efficiency
  • Support Operational Needs as Required - Participate in SysOps responsibilities, providing support during periods of high demand, such as when multiple team members are on PTO or the shift is particularly busy. Assist with monitoring, incident resolution, and other operational tasks as needed
  • Ensure Code Quality and Security - Write clean, maintainable, and testable code that meets security and performance best practices. Participate in peer reviews to ensure consistent coding standards and provide constructive feedback to the team
  • Collaborate Across Teams - Work closely with SysOps, DevOps, and support teams to align development projects with operational goals. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues that cross team boundaries
  • Drive Continuous Improvement - Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing tools, workflows, and processes. Contribute ideas and participate in planning sessions to enhance team efficiency and technical capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience in the WordPress hosting industry or broader web hosting experience
  • Contributions to WordPress core, plugins, or themes on GitHub or WordPress.org
  • Experience with additional tools in our stack, such as GitHub Actions, Elasticsearch, nginx, Python, Bash, Cloud Functions, or GCP services
