Summary
Join Xometry, a global leader in connecting manufacturers and buyers, as their new MFG/DFM Engineer. This role involves coordinating product development and launch, acting as a liaison between customers and suppliers, and ensuring a smooth transition from design to production. You will be responsible for implementing production system changes, conducting risk analyses, and leading product definition. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in manufacturing engineering, specifically CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication, and is proficient in CAD modeling and DFM analysis. Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, technical or related field preferred
- 2-4 years in engineering and manufacturing environment
- 1-2 years of manufacturing engineering experience with a focus on CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication is required
- Knowledge will include optimum equipment selections, process cycle times, material limitations and costs and geometry limitations
- Experience working with suppliers, OEM equipment providers, and customers
- Knowledge of GD&T and inspection/QA practices is required
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling software is necessary (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability to identify design for manufacturing (DFM) issues based on CAD models and drawings
- Higher engineering education - metal processing engineer, design engineer or similar
- Experience in the role of engineer from 3 years. Preferably in the field of automotive
- Expert knowledge of various metalworking methods
- Knowledge of various metal and plastic post-processes: polishing, hardening, heat treatment, anodizing, sanding/blasting, coatings, painting, etc
- Knowledge of various structural materials and their machining properties: metals, plastics, composites
- High conversational and written level of English
- Willingness and desire to work in a fast-growing business atmosphere, willingness to change
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the development and launch of the product into production
- Act as a liaison between the customer and the supplier company
- Ensure the transition from design to production through concurrent engineering activities with process engineers
- Implement all changes to the production system related to product modifications (at the level of engineering change management)
- Ensure manufacturability
- Report all production risk analyses and associated action plans and capabilities
- Lead product definition (completion of CAD) completed and development to ensure compliance to requirements (acceptance of customer product specification including geometry convergence)
- Perform DFM analysis
- Apply the production management system, engineering change management, as well as tools and standards
- Ensure that the main production stages are successfully completed on time
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of all CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication practices for both high- and low-volume runs is required, including but not limited to 3/4/5-axis milling
- Turning with live tooling
- Familiarity with different types of post-processing/plating finishes for machined parts
- Familiarity with specialty processes (i.e., wire and sinker EDM, lapping, grinding, honing, and gun drilling) is a plus
- Material selection knowledge is a plus
- Use of press brake technology
- Laser/plasma/water jet cutting
- Welding of various materials
- Hydraulic press (stamping) technology
- Progressive die (stamping) technology
- 3D printed tooling, Hard tooling, etc
