Summary
Join Hootsuite as our Director, Global Payroll and develop and execute the global payroll strategy. You will lead a team of payroll professionals, manage risk, ensure compliance, and drive process improvements across multiple countries and regions. This role requires strong leadership, extensive global payroll knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex landscapes. The position offers a flexible work arrangement with remote or hybrid options for eligible candidates in Canada and the US. You will report to the VP, Finance and be responsible for overseeing end-to-end global payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and timely processing. You will also manage relationships with external auditors and stakeholders for audits and compliance checks.
Requirements
- Advanced level of payroll experience, including experience as a Global Payroll Director or similar leadership role, overseeing global payroll operations. A minimum of 10 years of payroll management experience leading a payroll team
- Relevant certification or professional qualification in payroll such as the CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
- In-depth knowledge of global payroll practices, regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements across multiple countries and regions. (Canada, US, Mexico, and countries within the APAC & EMEA regions). Strong understanding of statutory deductions, tax rates, social security requirements, and benefits regulations globally
- Proficiency in using payroll software or systems for end-to-end global payroll processing. Experience with Workday payroll processing module an asset
- Experience with equity and stock-based compensation payroll requirements, and strong understanding of data protection regulations and confidentiality requirements

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the global payroll strategy, aligning with business objectives and compliance requirements
- Oversee end-to-end global payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing for multiple countries and regions
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local payroll providers and vendors to ensure seamless payroll delivery
- Ensure compliance with global payroll regulations, tax laws, and social security requirements in each jurisdiction
- Design and implement global payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistent practices, risk mitigation and compliance. Maintain internal control documentation and participate in key control activities
- Govern and assess current payroll systems and processes to drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of global payroll operations
- Stay updated with evolving payroll regulations, industry trends, and emerging technologies in global payroll management
- Lead and manage a team of payroll professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback. Perform full scope of people management responsibilities, including recruitment, selection and other DE&I practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, Legal, and IT, to streamline payroll processes and data integration
- Partner with the Total Rewards and People teams to manage stock-based compensation processing, including stock option exercises, and RSUs, to ensure compliance across different regions
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess payroll performance and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax authorities, and other stakeholders for audits and compliance checks
- Lead the integration of payroll activities related to any M&A transactions including but not limited to employee onboarding, legislation compliance, and system integration
- Coordinate year-end payroll processes, including tax reporting, annual statements, and compliance filings globally
- Perform other related duties as required

- Canada Pay Range For This Role $140,700 — $197,100 CAD
- US Pay Range For This Role $153,800 — $215,400 USD
