Summary

Join Ellevation Education as an Engineering Manager to co-lead the development of a benchmark assessment for English Learners. You will collaborate with a Product Manager and Instructional Lead, working with a team of engineers and content specialists. Initially, you will be hands-on with technical design and code, transitioning to less day-to-day coding as the team grows. You will ensure sound technical tradeoffs and advocate for valuable technical investments. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of software development experience and 2+ years managing engineering teams, with experience in designing, implementing, and operating complex systems. The salary range is $155,000-$205,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits.

  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of engineers
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating complex systems
  • A strong track record of helping the engineers on your teams learn and grow
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to learn from others

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead the overall effort alongside a Product Manager and an Instructional Lead
  • Work with UX designer along with a team of engineers and instructional content specialists
  • Work with all the engineers on your team to understand their growth paths; ensure they have good challenges ahead of them; steadily provide them with useful, direct feedback
  • Play a role in discussions that help guide the overall evolution of Ellevation’s engineering team
  • Be hands-on in the technical design and code
  • Help ensure your teams are making sound technical tradeoffs, steadily balancing short-term delivery against longer-term concerns
  • Work with your teams to identify and advocate for technical investments
  • Be extremely comfortable weighing tradeoffs, generating options, and assessing risks in an intentionally cross-functional manner
