Join Ecosia as an Engineering Manager with a Machine Learning focus in Berlin or remotely. Reporting to the CTO, you will lead and mentor ML engineers working on Large Language Models and Natural Language Processing, improving search experiences for millions of users. You will facilitate AI innovation, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and shape engineering strategy. The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience leading and mentoring engineers, a strong ML background, and experience in software or data engineering. Requirements

  • You enjoy developing and growing people and have a documented history of leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring engineers for at least 2 years
  • You possess a robust background in Machine Learning (including technologies such as Natural Language Processing, Classification, Embeddings, and LLMs), showcasing the ability to effectively guide the team in ML initiatives through the whole life cycle (from creating datasets to monitoring in production)
  • You have prior experience working as a software, data, or ML engineer, or data scientist, and know how to apply modern engineering practices to ensure continuous delivery and experimentation
  • You have hired for engineering positions, supporting diversity and understanding the importance of creating an inclusive workplace
  • You have a bias towards action and pragmatism, both in your own work and in your enablement of others

Responsibilities

  • Empower the team by removing roadblocks, enabling decisions, resolving tensions, and providing tools and support
  • Facilitate AI innovation by addressing AI-specific challenges, coordinating research and delivery, and ensuring the timely execution of projects and experiments
  • Collaborate & advise: partner with cross-functional teams, guide strategic AI and data investments, and review environmental, ethical, and privacy risks
  • Shape engineering strategy with the CTO and peers, and help attract, recruit, and onboard diverse, skilled professionals
  • Promote growth & learning: hold regular one-on-ones, mentor and coach for career development, and encourage knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Champion fairness & inclusion: ensure equitable performance reviews and compensation, and co-create a collaborative culture aligned with our values
