Summary

Join Chamberlain University as a Visiting Professor and share your expertise in English Composition with undergraduate and graduate students. This online position offers the opportunity to teach ENGL-118N (English Composition) and/or ENGL-148N (Advanced English Composition). Successful candidates will possess a Master's or PhD in English or a related field with significant coursework in English. Prior online teaching experience in higher education is preferred. The compensation rate is competitive and varies based on education, experience, and other factors. Requirements

  • Possess a Master's or PhD degree in English or closely related field with 18+ earned graduate credit hours directly in English coursework
  • Be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups

Responsibilities

  • Develop writing skills with a focus on the writing process and rhetorical analysis
  • Practice essay development, organization, style, and flow
  • Concentrate on grammar, mechanics, and basic APA formatting, citation, and referencing
  • Use professional and sample student essays, articles, and other written works as models for writing practice and development
  • Stress the reading process as a key to successful writing
  • Build on the conventions and techniques of composition through rich instruction in the argument rhetorical mode
  • Guide students' consideration of the rhetorical writing situation at each stage of essay development
  • Teach students recognized persuasive techniques
  • Apply critical thinking and logic to professional, social, and global topics
  • Emphasize best practices in locating, disseminating, synthesizing, and documenting credible and scholarly works
  • Require the application of the full writing process, from conception through final revisions, including peer group workshops

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have prior higher education online teaching experience
  • Possess solid subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
  • Possess excellent motivational and instructional skills to be effective in a non-traditional environment

Benefits

Compensation rate between $715/Earned Credit Hour to $1,950/Earned Credit Hour, depending on the candidateโ€™s education and experience
