Financial Controller

This involves defining processes with outsourced accounting partners and managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, internal controls, and compliance. Specific responsibilities include developing cryptocurrency management strategies and collaborating with the tech team to integrate blockchain technology with financial systems. You will also lead and mentor a small finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, relevant experience, and strong financial expertise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in finance, with at least 2 years in a senior finance role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting standards
• Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing a finance team
• Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Oversee all financial activities, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and maintaining regulatory compliance
• Shape the financial infrastructure of the company, implementing systems and processes that support our growth, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management
• Define the process and communication flow with outsourced accounting partners
• Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting standards
• Develop and maintain internal financial reports to monitor company performance
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads
• Prepare financial forecasts and analyze variances between actuals and budget/forecasts
• Provide insights and recommendations for cost management and revenue optimization
• Manage cash flow, including planning, forecasting, and monitoring
• Optimize working capital and maintain liquidity
• Oversee treasury functions and manage relationships with banks and financial institutions
• Design and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
• Coordinate external audits and manage the relationship with auditors
• Develop financial strategies for cryptocurrency management, including valuation, storage, and risk management
• Monitor and report on the financial implications of blockchain-related transactions and smart contracts
• Stay updated on evolving regulations in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space
• Implement and maintain financial systems that support the company's growth and scalability, working closely with outsourced partners
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data through process automation and optimization
• Collaborate with the tech team to integrate blockchain technology with financial reporting and control systems
• Provide strategic recommendations to the executive team based on financial analysis and projections
• Support fundraising efforts, including financial modeling and due diligence for potential investors
• Evaluate investment opportunities and assess financial risks and returns
• Lead, mentor, and develop a small finance team (in time)
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the finance function
• Ensure the finance team is equipped with the tools and skills necessary to meet business objectives

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA or CPA
• ACA, CPA or CIMA qualified
• Experience in a tech startup environment
• Exposure to blockchain or cryptocurrency
• Experience with blockchain accounting tools
