Join Teaching Lab, a growing remote education non-profit, as their General Ledger Accountant! This full-time, salaried position offers a competitive salary range of $65,500-$99,075 annually, with an anticipated hiring range of $65,500-$86,401. You will manage the organization's general ledger, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Key responsibilities include monthly close processes, bank reconciliations, and managing intercompany transactions between the non-profit and its for-profit subsidiary. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 3+ years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong GAAP knowledge, proficiency in Sage Intacct, and excellent analytical skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or in a similar field, like Business Management
  • 3+ years of proven experience in an automated accounting environment, performing financial reporting, account reconciliation and analysis
  • Prior experience in an accountant role with increasing responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting standards, and relevant laws and best practices; knowledge of Federal grant accounting standards is a plus
  • Experience working in multi-entity environments and reconciling inter-company accounts
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct or a similar financial system; strong financial systems literacy
  • Advanced proficiency of database and spreadsheet tools (i.e. Excel, Google Sheets)
  • Excellent writing skills and experience in documenting accounting implementations and audit evidence
  • Demonstrate advanced skills and experience in the preparation, analysis, and evaluation of financial statements, budgets, and/or related data and financial reports

Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly close process, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Communicate org-wide deadlines and coordinate monthly close activities to ensure timely data entry into the general ledger
  • Complete the monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliation process. Explain, document, and resolve reconciling items to the financial statements. Evaluate transactions to determine proper accounting treatment
  • Maintain schedules for prepaid expenses and accruals; ensure timely recording and reversal of entries. Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies promptly. Ensure reconciliations are well-documented and compliant with internal controls and audit standards
  • Using Sage Intacct, our financial reporting software, create and generate ad hoc reports, such as variance and activity analyses that support standard financial statements
  • Conduct timely monthly variance analyses at both the departmental and organizational levels, summarizing key insights to support financial reporting to the Executive Team
  • Support the Director, Accounting, with schedules required by the auditors in their annual examination of financial records and preparation of the 990
  • Recommend and document procedural and/or system changes to enhance financial reporting processes. Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to strengthen the financial and accounting control framework
  • Preserve the structure of the chart of accounts and the integrity of the general ledger data presented in reports created by Sage Intacct
  • Ensure information is in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards. Develop and refine supplemental custom financial reports so they are complete and accurate
  • Assist the Director, Accounting, and Budget Manager in the annual budgeting and planning process
  • Manage all intercompany transactions between the parent nonprofit and the for-profit subsidiary
  • Track, document, and reconcile intercompany activity in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure appropriate elimination entries are recorded for consolidated reporting
  • Update and maintain documentation of intercompany processes and controls
  • Provide support and serve as backup for key finance operations, including payroll and accounts payable processing
  • Collaborate with teams across departments to ensure accurate accounting treatment of activities
  • Provide financial data and analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning
  • Support internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives related to accounting processes and tools
  • Maintain and update Sage Intacct dashboards to ensure cross-functional leaders have timely access to relevant financial reports. Provide user support for access issues and system navigation
  • Stay abreast of key research and guidance in the field, and attend learning experiences to build skills and competencies in client management, project management, grant writing, and communications
