Requirements

• Highly developed knowledge of the underwriting function
• General awareness of current affairs, industry issues, and trends
• Solid knowledge of insurance contract law and state legislative requirements
• Strong knowledge of insurance products (plans, riders, benefits), and illustrations, and how they are marketed
• Knowledge of the reinsurance marketplace to work proactively with the field where reinsurance is an opportunity
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision
• Enthusiasm and positive attitude
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate attention to detail
• Ability to think of and implement creative solutions to business problems
• 2+ years of experience in an underwriting role
• Four-year degree required

Responsibilities

• Recommend underwriting policies and process designs that address critical trends and changes in the industry
• Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to approve risk selection and acceptance, coverage, and pricing
• Recommend creative alternatives regarding rating plans, coverages, and payment plans
• Review profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans to produce growth with profitable underwriting results
