Summary
Join Williamsburg Learning as a Math Tutor and provide real-time academic support to students in an online drop-in tutoring lab. You will assist students with understanding math concepts, completing homework, and developing problem-solving skills. This remote position may also include substitute teaching, leading school clubs, or grading assistance. Key responsibilities involve developing students' math skills, guiding them through problem-solving, explaining concepts in diverse ways, and maintaining a supportive online environment. You will utilize virtual tools, manage student behavior, and communicate with coordinators. The position requires demonstrated knowledge of various math subjects, experience with students and families, and excellent communication skills.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of mathematical subject areas, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus
- Proven work experience with educational staff, students, and their families
- Proven Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Adept at multitasking and working with multiple students at the same time
- Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse students and families
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer experience with the ability to adapt and learn various platforms, including Canvas, Zoom, G-Suite, and math tutoring software
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
- Demonstrated organizational skills
Responsibilities
- Develop studentsβ skills and competence in the principles and application of math
- Provide immediate assistance to students in the online drop-in lab for various math topics, including pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra II, and pre-calculus
- Guide students through problem-solving steps rather than simply providing answers
- Explain math concepts in multiple ways to accommodate diverse learning styles
- Support students in strengthening foundational math skills and applying them to assignments
- Maintain a welcoming and supportive online environment that encourages student engagement
- Utilize virtual whiteboard and chat tools effectively to model solutions and provide explanations
- Promote a positive learning environment
- Create and maintain a safe environment that promotes learning in a remote small-group or individual setting
- Actively encourage, motivate, and engage students during the tutoring session
- Manage student behavior to create a positive environment that optimizes learning
- Organize, maintain, and log daily notes for student support and achievement during tutoring
- Communicate regularly with Tutoring Lab Coordinator and MTSS Coordinator regarding trends, common challenges, or potential areas for intervention
- Serve as Williamsburg math class substitute as opportunities arise
