Insurance Defense Litigation Attorney

Summary

Join Semmes, Bowen & Semmes' Baltimore office as an associate with 3+ years of experience in insurance defense litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defending personal injury and property damage claims, including experience in areas such as products liability, construction litigation, and transportation law. This position offers a flexible hybrid work environment, requiring a commute to the Baltimore office three days a week after an initial training period. The firm provides a competitive salary ($100,000-$140,000 annually, including bonus), comprehensive benefits, and a supportive work environment. Candidates must be admitted to the Maryland bar and possess strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills. Experience in other jurisdictions and additional litigation experience are preferred.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school
• Admitted to practice law in MD required
• 3+ years' experience in insurance defense required
• Candidates should possess strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing and communication skills and have the ability to work independently
• Candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated

Responsibilities

• Meet deadlines, multi-task, and handle a high volume of cases
• Research complicated legal issues
• Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and all other documents in a timely manner
• Work closely with other attorneys and support staff
• Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions
• Communicate with clients regularly

Preferred Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in other jurisdictions such as DC or VA a plus
• 4-8 years' experience preferred
• Experience with complex general liability, professional liability, construction litigation, property damage claims, the defense of personal injury claims, and transportation is a plus
• Candidate will have a variety of litigation experience with a concentration in insurance defense
