Investment Counsel

Summary

Join Legalist, an alternative asset management firm, as an Investment Counsel to deploy our latest litigation finance fund. You will collaborate with engineers, lawyers, and analysts in a fast-paced environment. Core responsibilities include legal research and due diligence, preparing investment memos, negotiating with plaintiffs and attorneys, and collaborating with the engineering team on automation. The ideal candidate possesses a J.D. from a top 20 law school, 10+ years of post-law school experience in litigation, and experience with plaintiff-side representation. Experience in areas like commercial litigation or asset management is a plus. This role offers the opportunity to build the future of law and finance.

Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, History, Law or related field or equivalent experience from a top-tier institution
• Hold a J.D. from an accredited top 20 law school
• Have 10+ years of post-law school experience, including in a litigation practice at an AmLaw 200 firm and/or comparable boutique firms

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and due diligence on investment opportunities
• Prepare investment memos
• Negotiate in real-time with plaintiffs and attorneys over investment terms and pricing
• Train and work closely with the engineering team to translate legal knowledge into automation

Preferred Qualifications

• Have experience with plaintiff-side representation, alternative fee arrangements, litigation finance, and/or in an asset-management environment
• Have experience in several of the following areas: commercial litigation, breach of contract, antitrust, multidistrict litigation, employment disputes, whistleblower claims, corporate governance litigation
