Summary
The job description is for a Lead UI Artist position at Crystal Dynamics, where the employee will shape and execute the visual style of the game's user interface. The role requires experience as a Senior or Lead UI Artist, excellent communication skills, proficiency in design tools, understanding of technical constraints, ability to manage one or more UI artists, strong graphic design skills, a strong portfolio, and a bachelor's degree (preferred). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working on third-person action-adventure games or similar genres and worked on UI/UX Art for AAA games. Bonuses include familiarity with Rive and scripting languages.
Requirements
- Experience as a Senior or Lead UI Artist, contributing to high-quality UI Art for PC/Console games
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and art direction
- Proficiency in advanced design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Photoshop/Illustrator, and After Effects) and their integration into game engines, such as Unreal Engine
- An understanding of the technical constraints of commercial game engines
- Ability to manage one or more UI artists
- Strong graphic design skills, experience with motion graphics or animation, knowledge of the principles of typography, as well as basic wireframing skills
- A strong portfolio that showcases advanced UI artistry. An ideal portfolio will include: high-fidelity final assets, a range of visual styles, process work from concept to completion, innovative solutions to UI challenges, and examples of UI animations or motion design
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Art Director and internal teams to define and execute the visual style for the game's user interface (UI)
- Create comps/prototypes using Figma as well as Photoshop/Illustrator and After Effects
- Provide clear and concise feedback to both internal and external teams to ensure alignment with the studio's quality standards, technical requirements, and artistic vision
- Refine and polish final UI assets using industry-standard software and import them into Unreal Engine
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, such as style guides and technical specifications, to ensure consistent and efficient communication
- Mentor and provide feedback to UI artists, enhancing their skills and helping them reach their full potential
- Stay updated on industry trends and participate in cross-discipline discussions to refine UI designs and techniques
