Requirements

  • Translate complicated and often fundamentally unclear statutes, orders, and regulations into clear explanations and action items that can be understood by someone with zero legal background and limited HR background
  • Apply legal skills, logic, and reasoning to identify issues and propose solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Understand the implications of new information for both current and future compliance. Summarize large amounts of legal information
  • Possess excellent legal research skills
  • Be detail-driven in research, writing, and maintenance of team to-do lists and spreadsheets
  • Be skilled at high-level editing (moving paragraphs, excising topics, changing entire tone) as well as proofreading
  • Work collaboratively with a small team of lawyers and also across teams as needed; exhibit objectivity and openness to others; contribute to building a positive team spirit; support everyoneโ€™s efforts to succeed
  • Welcome feedback on analysis, writing, formatting, and presentation and speaking skills. Use feedback to improve work product in the future
  • Speak clearly and persuasively, listen and get clarification when necessary, interact effectively with other team members and departments
  • Establish priorities, plan work, and meet required deadlines while being consistently flexible when the need to switch tasks or legal topics arises
  • Strive to continuously build knowledge and skills; share expertise with others
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and willing and able to learn how to effectively use additional applications
  • Possess a Juris Doctor
  • Have at least five years of experience working with a broad range of employment laws and regulations
  • Possess extremely strong writing skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legislative and regulatory research and analysis
  • Create plain language content on a wide range of employment law and HR issues, often on a tight deadline, and in conformance with specific writing styles
  • Review, audit, update, and edit various content types to ensure accuracy of information and usability for clients
  • Assist our HR Advisors in understanding and relaying complex information to clients
  • Offer ideas for improvement and graciously accept constructive criticism
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including some team administrative duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have at least three years of experience working in a broad HR or employment law advisory role
  • Possess an HR certification from HRCI or SHRM
