Summary

Join Dwolla's Legal team as Legal Counsel and contribute to a fast-paced, innovative payments company. Collaborate with revenue, tech, and marketing teams to negotiate agreements and review materials. Work closely with the risk and compliance team to address questions and escalations. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and experience in contract drafting and negotiation. The position is primarily remote but requires occasional in-office attendance in Des Moines, Iowa. Dwolla offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

  • JD admitted to practice in Iowa, or eligible to be admitted without examination under Rule 31.12 or to register as Iowa House Counsel under Rule 31.16
  • 3-5 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Significant experience with and interest in contract drafting, review, and negotiation is required

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal and business guidance across all teams, with a focus on Sales, Compliance, Privacy, Customer Excellence and Marketing
  • Work closely with Dwolla’s Risk & Compliance team to provide advice on risk and compliance processes throughout the commercial risk review lifecycle and implement scalable processes
  • Provide legal guidance regarding privacy, security, data protection and data privacy including (but not limited to) CCPA, state privacy laws, privacy impact assessments and development of frameworks, data-sharing and development of safeguards, and other related matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements
  • Provide guidance regarding customer onboarding process and lifecycle, implement scalable processes, and provide training to internal clients
  • Provide legal support for digital marketing, advertising, and content production with a focus on consumer protection, and implement scalable marketing review processes
  • Develop contract templates, contracting guidelines, and scalable contract processes
  • Monitor and drive compliance with Dwolla’s company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Create and deliver ongoing training to internal teams
  • Perform legal research and remain up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations
  • Help drive Legal team initiatives, including launching and maturing internal processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience assisting clients to navigate regulatory issues, substantive knowledge of laws and issues related to consumer protection and privacy and deep understanding of SaaS contracts is ideal
  • Prior experience in the following industries is very desirable: payments, financial services, and/or e-commerce
