This fully remote, contract position offers a fast-paced environment where you will manage all U.S. legal and regulatory aspects of short-term real estate collateralized commercial loan origination. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, ensure compliance, prepare loan documents, and negotiate with counsel. The ideal candidate possesses a law degree, 7-10 years of experience in commercial loan origination, and strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations. Requirements

  • Law degree
  • 7-10 years’ work experience in U.S. commercial loan origination (preferably, real estate collateralized)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state commercial lending laws, rules, regulations and licensing requirements, and working knowledge of laws governing financial institutions
  • Working knowledge of real property recording systems and real property chain of title matters throughout the U.S
  • Excellent organizational, communication (both written and verbal) and computer skills
  • Excellent English fluency, both written and verbal
  • Strong legal research skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful with excellent follow-through skills
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
  • Able to establish and maintain effective work relationships both internally and externally

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all legal and regulatory aspects of the loan origination process
  • Liaise and collaborate internally with relevant departments, and externally with applicants, title companies, outside counsel (for the company or the applicant), etc
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Provide required legal advice and guidance
  • Prepare, review and negotiate loan documents and/or supporting documents
  • Negotiate opinion letters to be delivered by borrowers’ counsel
  • Review and negotiate title reports/commitments
  • Understand and manage time-sensitive deadlines
  • Review, revise, update and/or develop applicable policies and procedures
  • Conduct post-closing review
  • Address origination related matters in coordination with the post-closing asset resolution process for non-performing loans
  • Review of data output of Loan Origination System prior to funding
  • Review of real estate title for loans secured by real estate
  • Preparation of closing document packages
  • Preparation of DMV and other documentation need to obtain a security interest in non-real estate collateral
  • Scheduling delivery and execution of closing documents
  • Pre-funding review of executed document and submission of funding package to treasury
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures to guide consistency in quality
  • Coordination and delivery of documentation and data to Loan Administration for loan setup post funding
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Law degree; from a nationally accredited U.S. law school
