Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a litigation support or legal assistant role, ideally in a law firm setting
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and legal document formatting
  • Familiarity with litigation software and case management systems (e.g., Clio, Relativity, PACER)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and editing capabilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, organization, and management of litigation case files, including maintaining and updating case documents, evidence, and discovery materials. Ensure timely filing of documents with courts and regulatory bodies as required
  • Prepare and format legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and other litigation-related materials. Proofread and ensure accuracy and consistency in all documentation
  • Manage litigation calendars, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines, court appearances, hearings, and discovery deadlines. Track and monitor deadlines related to case filings, court orders, and motions
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, keeping them informed of case progress and answering routine queries under the direction of attorneys. Draft client correspondence, including status updates and other case-related communication
  • Assist with the preparation and management of discovery, including compiling, reviewing, and organizing discovery documents and evidence. Coordinate with opposing counsel on the exchange of discovery materials
  • Conduct basic legal research as needed, including reviewing statutes, case law, and legal precedents to assist attorneys in preparing cases
  • Support the preparation of cases for trial by organizing trial exhibits, preparing witness lists, and managing trial schedules. Attend trials as needed to assist attorneys with document management and other tasks
